My current research interests draw together media, memory, ageing and gender. In particular with a focus on digital media and Web 2.0 creativity. While exploring the emergent and exciting possibilities that digital media is bringing to our understanding of the past, our personal, social, cultural, racial and national heritages, I am also enframing this research in terms of local, emplaced and community creativity.

This is not at odds with global, networked or connected articulations of memory in a Web 2.0 ecology but rather adds an emotional, embodied and creative dimension to our understandings by working closely with people as they make/craft and remake/recraft their stories using the media tools at their disposal. These people could be anyone from citizens to students, to academics, to disenfrachised communities and individuals.

I am currently Director of a new research centre of Media, Memory and Community http://www.glos.ac.uk/research/mac/mmc/Pages/default.aspx and co-researcher of the AHRC funded research network Women, Ageing and Media www.wam-research.org.uk. Which has now joined the Aging Studies in Europe Network.

I have recently co-edited with Andrew Hoskins and Anna Reading the collection Save As...Digital Memories (Palgrave Macmillan) and am currently writing a book for Edinburgh University Press entitled Media and Memory.
